Where clinically indicated, I will suggest that you consider a medication consultation (generally conducted by a qualified psychiatrist), and will give you the names of several very competent, caring psychiatrists to choose from. Sometimes medication is a very helpful adjunct to successful problem resolution. I also help my patients to identify goals that define successful completion of treatment. I like to begin treatment by taking an extensive history and problem definition, which includes a history of the problem, exploration of the dynamics of the family of origin, psychiatric history, brief medical history (to rule out problems that may be primarily physical in nature rather than psychological), and an exploration of exceptions to the problem (i.e., when YOU rather than YOUR PROBLEM are in charge). Collaborative refers to my joining with the patient and/or patient family in a joint problem-solving process. My treatment approach is generally supportive, active, and collaborative. I have been trained in and utilize individual therapy, group therapy, couples/marital therapy, and family therapy. As such, I offer treatment for a wide variety of disorders and problems, ranging across the age spectrum from Pre-Adolescent children through Senior Adults.
